Julius Gillick didn’t need much time to ponder the offer.

The Edison running back knew what type of college scenario he wanted, and once Fresno State offered, he acted that same day.

Gillick committed to the Bulldogs on Jan. 3 to a fulfill his recruiting “dream.”

“(It’s) always been a dream since I was a kid to play in the Pac-12 (Conference),” he said. “I know (the conference) isn’t the same anymore but at least my dream came true.”

In September, Fresno State was admitted into a new-look Pac-12 Conference starting in 2026. The conference will also include Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Oregon State and Washington State.

Gillick, who was selected The Register’s offensive player of the year last month, said he also was attracted by Fresno State’s brand of “smash-mouth football” and coaching staff.

“(It’s) a system where guys like me can thrive,” said Gillick, who is 6-foot, 215 pounds and excels running up the middle. “It’s somewhere I hope and believe I will play as a freshman and work my way up quickly.”

Gillick was previously committed to Montana but announced his decommitment last month.

Gillick said he discussed recruiting with his mother Robin, brother Owen and mentor Arron, the father of his friend Amarr Murphy-Paine who was fatally shot in Seattle in June.

“I knew right away I was taking (Fresno State’s offer),” Gillick said. “It was a no-brainer for me.”
