(KRON) — A man who was walking outside of a North San Jose crosswalk on Monday was struck and killed by a vehicle, according to the San Jose Police Department. The incident marks the city’s first traffic fatality of 2025.
Emergency crews responded at 10:33 p.m. to the area of Berryessa and Sierra roads on the report of a pedestrian-involved vehicle collision. The pedestrian, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.
SJPD’s Traffic Investigations Unit said the pedestrian was crossing Berryessa Road southbound at the Sierra Road intersection. He was walking just outside of the crosswalk when a 2001 silver Toyota SUV that was being driven eastbound on Berryessa Road went through a green light and struck him, according to the preliminary investigation.
The driver of the Toyota, an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Authorities did not release the identity of the pedestrian.
