SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Giants are adding former MVP Justin Verlander to their pitching staff, multiple outlets reported Tuesday. The team reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the pitcher.
Verlander, 41, is one of the best pitchers of the 2000s and a future Hall of Famer. He has pitched in MLB since 2005 and spent most of his decorated career with the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers.
Verlander won the American League Cy Young award in 2011, 2019 and 2022. His impressive resume also includes the 2011 AL MVP, nine All-Star nods, two World Series titles, three no-hitters, and a Rookie of the Year award.
He took a step back in 2024, posting a 5.48 ERA over 17 starts. Verlander will look to bounce back in San Francisco.
He will join a starting rotation that recently lost another former Cy Young winner — Blake Snell, who left the Giants for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
ESPN reported that the Giants will pay Verlander $15 million. Verlander will have to pass a physical before the deal is finalized.
