A 67-year-old woman was hospitalized for serious injuries after a man came to her Simi Valley house and stabbed her multiple times, police announced Monday.
The Simi Valley Police Department said officers responded around 2:38 p.m. on Jan. 3 to a residence on the 4000 block of Ish Drive after a woman called 911 and repeatedly said, “Emergency, please, somebody is coming, knife.”
According to witnesses, an unknown man came to the woman’s house, stabbed her and then fled the area.
Officers arrived and purportedly found the woman, only identified as a 67-year-old Simi Valley resident, with “numerous” stab wounds to her face, body and arms.
First responders transported the victim to a local hospital with what officials described as critical, but nonfatal injuries.
SVPD said officers ultimately found the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Juan Avilez of Simi Valley, hiding in some bushes near the victim’s house.
Officials said Avilez was uncooperative but that he was eventually apprehended by police and arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The department said detectives are still investigating the incident and asked anyone with additional information to call the Simi Valley Police Department at 805-583-6950.
