A 25-year-old man accused of shooting two security guards at a downtown Los Angeles Target store in late December has been charged with multiple counts including attempted murder, officials announced Friday.
“This morning, my office filed serious charges against a man accused of attempting to shoplift from a Target store and then escalating his actions to a violent attack that left two security guards injured, one critically, by gunfire,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Hochman said. “This kind of brazen thievery and violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Los Angeles County.”
The DA’s Office identified Jabril Andrew Metoyer of Los Angeles as the suspect in the violent Dec. 30 incident that took place in the 700 block of South Figueroa Street.

One of the two security guards was armed and exchanged gunfire with the assailant, Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Raul Jovel said following the shooting. At least 10 rounds were fired between the two, with several walls hit.
“My thoughts are with the injured guards and their families during this difficult time. I want to assure them, and all residents, that we will use every resource available to bring justice to those who commit such heinous acts,” Hochman said Friday.
In addition to the Dec. 30 incident, Metoyer allegedly shot a man three days earlier who declined to give him money near 7th and Figueroa streets in downtown Los Angeles, the DA’s Office stated.
Metoyer has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of robbery, and one count of attempted robbery, the DA’s Office stated. He also faces special allegations of personal use of a firearm and personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
If convicted as charged, Metoyer faces life in state prison.
