(KRON) — Police are investigating a carjacking in West Oakland on Wednesday that involved the suspect allegedly firing a gun.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the armed suspect approached the victim as they were getting out of their car at around 6:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Hannah Street.
The suspect fired a gun near the victim and demanded their belongings and the vehicle’s keys, police said. The victim handed them over in fear of violence and fled the area to safety.
The suspect then hopped into the vehicle and attempted to flee. For reasons not immediately known, they were unsuccessful in leaving in the victim’s vehicle. The suspect got back out and fled on foot, OPD said.
