Hotel giant to open in Walnut Creek as more businesses set to move into East Bay suburb this year

(KRON) — Hilton is opening up its second location in Walnut Creek, according to city planning documents. A Hilton Garden Inn is set to open this spring at 490 Lawrence Way.

No official opening date is set for the Walnut Creek Hilton Garden Inn. However, according to Hilton’s website, the hotel is accepting reservations as early as May 13.

Hilton Garden Inn will consist of 124 guest rooms across three floors, 113 on-site parking spaces and an outside pool area. According to city documents, the entire site of the hotel spans roughly 98,000 square feet or 2.26 acres.

This Hilton will be the hotel chain’s second in Walnut Creek. Hilton has an Embassy Suites at 1345 Treat Blvd.

The Hilton Garden Inn project was years in the making as the hotel filed its application to the City of Walnut Creek back on Sept. 28, 2017, a city spokesperson told KRON4. After four public hearings regarding the project, the application was approved in August of 2018.

This Hilton is one of several businesses making the move to open in the city this year. Walnut Creek is “seeing a resurgence of applications” for businesses to open in the East Bay suburb, a city spokesperson said last month.

Taco Bell submitted an application to open its second restaurant at the Rossmoor Shopping Center. That application is still being reviewed for approval. Currently, there is a Taco Bell at 2400 N Main St.

Famed San Francisco restaurant Original Joe’s is set to open this spring at Broadway Plaza. This will be Original Joe’s first East Bay location since opening up in 1937.

A popular San Francisco brunch spot, Sweet Maple, is also opening its first East Bay location in Walnut Creek. Known for its “Millionaire’s bacon,” Sweet Maple is opening at 1523 Giammona Drive, although no opening date has been set.

Last November, a Pinstripes opened in downtown Walnut Creek. The two-story bowling alley provides another entertainment option for shoppers at Broadway Plaza.
