(FOX40.COM) — A group of men from Richmond was arrested in Calaveras County on Saturday for allegedly stealing from an illegal large-scale marijuana grow house, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
The bust began with deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol investigating a suspicious vehicle in the 6000 block of Michel Road southeast of San Andreas.
Two vehicles were found in the roadway, one unoccupied and the other having a man inside. The man left the scene and was later found with four other men, all from Richmond.
When the men were located, several 55-gallon trash bags filled with marijuana were found in the back of the vehicle they had been stopped in. The marijuana weighed around 180 pounds.
Further investigation found that the weed was likely stolen given that it was recently cut, it was still wrapped in white netting and burglary tools were found in the vehicle.
Back at the original scene on Michel Road, deputies discovered a large metal shed with signs of forced entry.
A search of the shed revealed that it was being used as an indoor illegal marijuana grow. Four rooms were found containing nearly 800 growing plants valued at over $315,000.
