(KRON) — Two teenagers were arrested this week as the Novato Police Department continued to investigate an armed robbery and a shooting that occurred in December.
The arrests stemmed from two gun-related incidents, the first of which happened on Dec. 19 near the Novato High School. In that incident, a 20-year-old was held at gunpoint by a group of teens, police said. The suspects stole the man’s cash and personal items before fleeing the scene. Novato PD did not locate the teens after a neighborhood and campus search.
On Dec. 29, a 14-year-old was shot inside a Novato residence, police said. Responding authorities found that the suspect had fled the home before their arrival. K-9s from the Novato and Petaluma police departments assisted in a search for the suspect.
Medics transported the gunshot victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Followup investigations included reviewing surveillance video from neighbors. Police said the same firearm was likely used in both the armed robbery and the shooting, and it was determined that one of the suspects in the group armed robbery was involved in the shooting of the 14-year-old.
The suspect allegedly connected to both incidents was arrested on Monday. Another suspect in the armed robbery was found and arrested on Tuesday, Novato PD said. Both teens were booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall.
