A Los Angeles man has been arrested for the death of his girlfriend who was thrown from his car during a domestic dispute.
Edgar Gutierrez, 34, of Panorama City was charged with murder Tuesday, a day after his girlfriend died at an area hospital from major head trauma.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Gutierrez was involved in an argument with his girlfriend Saturday afternoon in the North Hollywood area.
The couple, who had been together for two years, got into an altercation outside a residence. As Gutierrez got into a nearby car, his girlfriend grabbed onto the vehicle and clung to it as Gutierrez sped away.
“The suspect accelerated to unsafe speeds and drove through several short residential streets while making violent maneuvers to force the victim from the car,” the LAPD stated in a news release Tuesday.
The woman was eventually thrown from the car and hit the pavement, suffering fatal injuries. Gutierrez then allegedly drove away from the scene, police said.
Gutierrez was later arrested by Burbank police officers the following afternoon and booked at the LAPD Valley Jail in Van Nuys to await charges for attempted murder.
On Monday, the victim died from her injuries, leading to those charges being amended to include murder. He’s currently being held on $1 million bail. His next court date has not been set.
