How to win free passes and lodging by guessing next major snowfall in Big Bear

Precipitation prognosticators can win free snow passes and hundreds in free lodging by predicting the first major snowfall of the season in Big Bear Lake.

Visit Big Bear is inviting the public to take a shot at predicting the date when the area will receive at least 6 inches of snow during a 24-hour period.

The Guess the NEXT Big Bear Snowfall Contest launched Friday, with prizes including four passes to Big Bear Snow Play and a $250 lodging gift certificate at participating properties.

“This is a great promotion for those that are poking around weather apps and itching for some powder,” said Visit Big Bear CEO Travis Scott. “Fresh snow is always a winner, and our contest victor will come out on top with a fabulous grand prize.”

To enter, visit the contest page online and submit your guess for the day when the area receives at least 6 inches of natural snow, as measured at the Big Bear Lake Visitor Center. Entries are due by Jan. 8, 2025.

Those who guess correctly will be entered into a blind drawing for the grand prize, which must be redeemed during the 2024-25 winter season.

Scott says Big Bear residents and visitors are eagerly awaiting fresh powder but snow recreation is well underway thanks to modest snowfall and man-made snow at local mountain resorts.

At Big Bear Mountain Resort, the first new chairlift in more than 30 years opened Thursday at Bear Mountain. The $10.2 million Midway lift, a high-speed six-seater, replaces chairs 2 and 5 in the central base area, officials said. The new lift will improve uphill capacity, with a ride time of 2.5 minutes and the ability to carry 3,200 people per hour.

As Big Bear Mountain Resort continues to expand chairlift and trail access, Big Bear Snow Play is also planning to open an additional run for snow tubing in the coming weeks.

“Big Bear is certainly ready for a good snowstorm. We hope this engaging contest keeps snow at top of mind, and keeps everyone thinking snow,” added Scott.
