Dodgers to pay $2M for police, fire services during parade: LAT

The memories of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2024 championship season may be priceless for fans, but celebrating the Boys in Blue certainly wasn’t cheap for the team.

The Dodgers shelled out more than $2 million to pay for the Los Angeles Police and Fire departments to work the Nov. 1 parade, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Of that amount, more than $1.7 million was for the LAPD, while the LAFD charged just under $300,000.

State law requires that the city be reimbursed for “special events” such as the parade, and the Dodgers are “finalizing the total reimbursement soon,” the team said in a statement to the Times.

“It was a great event for the city, Dodger fans and our team, and we’re grateful for the joint support of the Dodgers provided by the city as a whole, especially the Mayor, the City Council, the LAPD, the LAFD and the [Department of Transportation],” the statement added.

The 2024 World Series victory over the New York Yankees was the Dodgers’ second title since 1988, though many were unable to publicly celebrate the 2020 championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That longing made the 2024 celebration that much sweeter, though manager Dave Roberts said this might not be the only chance Angelenos have to honor the Boys in Blue.

“You guys wanted a parade. We got a parade,” Roberts said. “Guys, let’s get ready to run this back next year, too.”
