(KRON) — With California Lottery Mega Millions reaching its seventh-largest jackpot ever for Friday night’s drawing, potential winners may be busy pondering how they’re going to call out of work on Monday.
CA Lottery said the Mega Millions pot stands at an estimated $862 million. Officials said this marks a historic milestone as there has never been possible winnings this high for the month of December.
CA Lottery said Friday night’s draw will be the 29th in this jackpot sequence, which started back in September after the last Mega Millions jackpot was hit in Texas.
If no one wins the big prize Friday night, the jackpot will increase to an estimated $944 million in the next drawing for this upcoming Tuesday.
CA Lottery said for every $2 Mega Millions ticket sold in California, it contributes 80 cents to help fund public education. Since September, it said it has raised $58.5 million for public education solely from Mega Millions ticket sales.
