(KTLA) — A Beverly Hills piano teacher faces decades in prison after he allegedly molested a teenaged student.
The piano student was abused between Aug. 1 and Nov. 9, a period during which they turned 14 years old, according to a release from the office of Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
Hovanes John Jihanyan, 41, was arrested on Dec. 12 and faces multiple charges:
- Continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14
- Forcible oral copulation of a minor victim over 14
- Sexual penetration of a minor under 16
- Unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 16
- Sodomy of a child under 16
- Lewd act upon a child age 14 or 15
Jihanyan is being held at Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, and he’s scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 15 at the Airport Courthouse.
If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of up to 29 years in state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
“I am appalled by these horrific acts of sexual abuse against a vulnerable child,” Hochman said in the release. “Our office has a long history of aggressively prosecuting child abuse cases, and we are fully committed to seeking justice for the victim and their family. The skilled and dedicated prosecutors in our Sex Crimes Division will ensure any criminal who targets children is held accountable. We believe there may be additional victims, and we encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact the Santa Monica Police Department.”
