SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Jurors in the trial of the man accused of murdering Cash App founder Bob Lee are headed into Day 6 of deliberations Thursday. Nima Momeni is accused of fatally stabbing the tech mogul in San Francisco’s East Cut neighborhood near the Bay Bridge early on the morning of April 4, 2024.
Prosecutors say Momeni stabbed Lee as an act of vengeance after a drug dealer Lee was friends with sexually assaulted Momeni’s sister, Khazar. Momeni, 40, also believed Lee had an “inappropriate” relationship with Khazar, according to prosecutors.
Momeni’s defense has argued that he stabbed Lee in an act of self-defense. In their telling, Lee, who was high on cocaine and ketamine at the time, became enraged after Momeni made a “bad joke” about how the 43-year-old tech entrepreneur should have been spending time with his family, rather than partying.
The defense said Lee pulled a knife on Momeni, who is trained in martial arts, and Momeni turned it back on Lee.
Momeni is charged with first-degree murder. However, if the jury is convinced he stabbed Lee in self-defense, he could be instead found guilty of manslaughter.
