KRON4 and Club Fugazi hold event celebrating San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Tuesday night, KRON4 News and Club Fugazi collaborated on an event to celebrate San Francisco. The event, which blended Club Fugazi’s show “Dear San Francisco” with KRON4’s series “This Is Our City,” celebrated the City by the Bay with all of its greatness and acknowledged its faults in a light-hearted way.

“Dear San Francisco” has been called a “valentine to the city,” and features acrobats interwoven with personal stories shared by San Franciscans. Prior to the performance, audience members were asked to write their own letters to San Francisco. Some of those letters were read aloud during Tuesday’s performance.

“I’m excited. Club Fugazi is such a gem,” said KRON4’s Vicki Liviakis.

“It has been for so many years,” agreed former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.

“It’s a very emotional journey for people who love the city, or even for people who are struggling or wrestling with the city. It’s a reminder of why the city is worth wrestling for, and it’s as reminder of who you are in relation to the city,” said David Dower, co-producer and executive director at Club Fugazi.

In addition to former Mayor Brown, other local luminaries in attendance included California Lieutenant Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, and several subjects from “This Is Our City.”

A new series launched by KRON4 Anchor Vicki Liviakis, “This Is Our City” is about putting down the news cameras, picking up the phone, and taking a closer look at the city we call home and getting a chance to meet the people who make up this iconic place.
