(KRON) — Animal shelters in the North Bay are looking to find homes for some chihuahuas after 27 of the small dogs were found dumped along the side of a road in Calistoga, the Napa County Animal Shelter said.
The dogs were found stuffed into several crates on Thursday, Dec. 5. The shelter says it is already full, and some of the dogs were taken to the Marin Humane Society.
“It’s truly awful that someone felt they had no choice but to leave them and hope for the best,” the Napa County Animal Shelter said. “Every kennel is bursting, and without immediate help, we are facing heartbreaking decisions.”
Of the nine dogs given to the Marin Humane Society, five had already been adopted by Tuesday afternoon. Lisa Bloch with the shelter says the dogs are mixes that range in age, from young puppies to 6 years old.
“They seem to be in great shape. Super cute. Definitely a mix,” Bloch said.
The person who dumped the dogs by the road can be charged with abandonment. There has been no update on an arrest.
