A United Parcel Service employee has been fired after he was seen on home surveillance video stealing an Apple Watch that was intended as a gift, the company told KTLA 5 News.
The theft occurred recently in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
A camera positioned above the front yard of the victim’s home shows a UPS truck first pulling up to a curb across the street.
The delivery man walks to the front gate carrying a small package. Instead of dropping the package on the porch, the man looks back to check on his partner, removes the watch from its packaging, and throws the empty package in a neighbor’s garbage can, the video shows.

The delivery man circled back to the UPS truck, and both he and his partner drove away.
Eliu Chavez told KTLA that the Apple Watch was supposed to be a gift for his wife. He checked the status of the order and saw that the watch had been delivered. When it didn’t show up, he checked the surveillance video and saw what had happened to it.
“The temporary seasonal hire has been terminated,” UPS said in a statement to KTLA on Thursday. “This incident does not reflect our values. We have no tolerance for theft. UPS employees are trained to perform their jobs with integrity and professionalism, and we are committed to providing reliable and secure delivery to customers.”
Apple Watches range in price from $150 to $800, depending on the model.
