An evacuation warning has been issued for some Riverside County residents for a growing brush fire that ignited in Fontana on Thanksgiving evening, according to officials.
San Bernardino County Fire first reported the Canyon Crest Fire at 5:31 p.m. on Thursday in an X post, saying crews were on the scene of a 100 by 100-foot spot fire running uphill in the area of Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane in Fontana.
Officials upgraded the fire from 2nd to 3rd alarm in a follow-up X post at 6:21 p.m., saying the fire grew to 10 acres with a moderate rate of speed. This is the only acreage reported as of 8 p.m.
Fire officials issued the evacuation warning for Riverside County on X at 7:28 p.m. for areas north of Highway 60, east of Country Village Road, south of the Riverside and San Bernardino County line and west of Sierra Avenue.

According to the CAL FIRE incidents report page, evacuation warnings mean there is a potential threat to life and/or property. “Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock should leave immediately,” says the organization’s website.
San Bernardino County Fire noted that CAL FIRE in Riverside County will be assuming incident command.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to CAL FIRE. No injuries or damaged structures have been reported as of 8:30 p.m.
