Several of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees were targeted with “violent, unAmerican” threats Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, Trump’s transition team announced.
The “attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting,” Trump-Vance spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted. President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.”
Fox News Digital reports that local law enforcement officials responded to the threats and visited the homes of several nominees and appointees.
It was not immediately known which incoming cabinet members were targeted or if authorities had made any arrests.
“President Trump and the Transition are focused on doing the work of uniting our nation by ensuring a safe and prosperous future,” Leavitt said. “With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us.”
Swatting is an illegal form of harassment where someone makes a false report to law enforcement, claiming a bomb threat, hostage situation, murder or another urgent crime is happening at the victim’s location.
