A transient is facing 10 felony charges for allegedly stabbing and attacking multiple people in downtown Ventura on Saturday.
Efrain Troncoso, 22, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, one count of felony vandalism and one count of attempted unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle.
“He is also charged with several special allegations including the infliction of great bodily injury,” the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Troncoso allegedly perpetrated a series of attacks in downtown Ventura, including stabbing a man in the back while riding a bicycle, stabbing another man in the neck multiple times, striking a third person in the head with a metal object and robbing them, and robbing a fourth person of their keys at knifepoint.
Troncoso is being held without bail at the Ventura County Main Jail.
He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, though “no plea was entered, and criminal proceedings were put on hold to determine competency,” the release said
That mental competency hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Ventura County Superior Court.
Jail records show Troncoso faces additional charges in a separate incident.
After an incident on Nov. 7, he was charged with three misdemeanors: recklessly causing fire to the property of another, possession of a controlled substance and resisting a peace officer causing death or serious bodily injury.
