LIST: Filipino box office sequel ‘Hello, Love, Again’ showings in Bay Area

(KRON) — The sequel to the 2019 Filipino box office hit “Hello, Love, Goodbye” hits the big screen this week. “Hello, Love, Again” will premiere in North American movie theaters starting this Thursday, Nov. 14.

“Hello, Love, Again” will have the widest North American release ever for a Filipino film, according to a press release. Its prequel, “Hello, Love, Goodbye” was, at the time, the highest-grossing Filipino film (₱880.6 million Philippine pesos or ~$15 million) of all time, according to ABS-CBN film productions.

Filipino movie stars Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards reprise their roles as Joy and Ethan. The sequel is set to have screenings across several Bay Area theaters (see list below).

KRON4 spoke with Bernardo and Richards ahead of the movie’s release to talk about filming in Canada, what it’s like to work with each other again and how the film relates to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) across the globe.

Bernardo told KRON4 she feels “really honored” to play a character like Joy who is relatable to many OFWs across the globe. “I’m just really honored to be given this kind of role because more than anything it’s a representation of our international workers,” Bernardo said.

Film Background

“Hello, Love, Again” takes place five years after “Hello, Love, Goodbye” after Joy says farewell to Ethan in Hong Kong to pursue her dreams in Canada. The first film highlights Joy’s struggles of being an OFW and having to provide and take care of her family back home in the Philippines. Ethan also migrated to Hong Kong from the Philippines with dreams of opening up his own bar.

In the sequel, Joy, a nursing graduate, has now moved to Canada to pursue dreams of a better life for herself and her family. Joy and Ethan meet again in Canada. The two work to adjust their lives in a different country and navigate their romance.
