Leaking hydrochloric acid tank prompts hazmat response in Redwood City Friday

(KRON) — A leaking 100-gallon tank of hydrochloric acid prompted a hazmat response in Redwood City Friday, the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department said Monday.

Approximately 3 to 5 gallons of the corrosive acid leaked from the tank, flowed into a nearby parking lot and pooled up on the asphalt, according to officials.  The fire department did not specify the address of the incident within Redwood City.

The SMCFD Hazardous Materials team, along with the Redwood City Fire Department, responded to the leak and mitigated the hazard. Photos from the scene of the response show a trail of liquid coming from a hazardous materials storage shed with a large tank inside.
