(KRON) — The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) announced it arrested a juvenile for driving in a stolen car with an unregistered gun.
VPD said the incident unfolded on Nov. 4 when officers spotted a black Nissan 370Z traveling near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Springs Road. Officers said a records check determined the car been reported stolen from Redwood City.
Police reported the driver did not pull over when prompted by officers and instead “accelerated to a reckless speed,” making officers end the pursuit for the public’s safety.
VPD said the California Highway Patrol Air Unit assisted in looking for the suspect and later located the car parked on the 200 block of El Sendero.
Police said the suspect, later determined to be a juvenile, tried to run away but was arrested after a short distance. Investigators confirmed an unregistered firearm was discovered in the glovebox during a search of the car and booked as evidence.
VPD said the juvenile’s mother was made aware of the arrest, and the owner of the stolen Nissan was informed their car was recovered. The juvenile was taken to the Solano County Juvenile Detention Facility.
