A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her Westminster home on Friday after officers were called to check on the victim, who had not been heard from in several days. Authorities said evidence indicated her death was the result of a homicide.
Westminster police officers were called for a welfare check at around 9:45 p.m. on the 8200 block of 19th Street. After the victim was found, Westminster Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators got to the scene and continued the investigation into the night, according to authorities.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released. A search warrant was obtained and more evidence was found.
“Almost immediately, a person of interest was detained and brought to the station,” said a news release. The person of interest was later identified as a relative of the victim. Irving Mondragon, 38, was taken into custody.
Mondragon will be booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder. The motive was under investigation.
