Two Santa Ana City Council incumbents, Thai Viet Phan and Johnathan Hernandez, maintained slight leads ahead of their challengers in the races for Ward 1 and 5 results in updated election results released Wednesday evening.
Jeffrey Katz maintained a slim lead he developed late Tuesday night in his challenge of incumbent Councilmember Jessie Lopez in the latest results for the Ward 3 seat. He is now beating Lopez by just over 300 votes.

In the race for the Ward 1 seat, Phan faced local business owner Julie Tran and had about 52% of the vote as of Wednesday.
In Ward 5, Hernandez had more than 55% of the vote as of Wednesday to fend off a challenge from Mario Alvarado, a local business owner.
Katz formerly served as president of the Floral Park Neighborhood Association. He ran for the same City Council seat in 2020, but lost to Lopez.
Mayor Valerie Amezcua continues to maintain a significant lead at 62% of the vote, ahead of her challenger, City Councilmember Benjamin Vazquez.
The Registrar of Voters said results will be updated daily at 5 p.m., except weekends, until the counting is complete.
