Two officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were hospitalized after a violent rollover crash involving a juvenile motorist suspected of driving under the influence in the Harbor Gateway region of the city.
The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. near the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Rosecrans Avenue.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the two-vehicle crash occurred, but footage of the collision aftermath obtained by KTLA showed extensive damage to both vehicles and a heavy law enforcement and fire department presence at the scene.
The officers’ patrol vehicle was seen completely upside down, tilted toward the vehicle’s frontend. Extensive skid marks and dents could be seen on the driver’s side passenger door as well, with the force of the impact causing airbags in both vehicles to deploy.
Heavy damage was also seen on the red, four-door Ford sedan involved in the crash, with its front end destroyed.
Police had the intersection, which was littered with debris from the crash, cordoned off while they conducted an investigation.
At the side of the road, two officers could be seen administering what appeared to be a sobriety test to the juvenile driver, who was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.
It is unknown if the juvenile sustained any injuries during the crash.
Both of the officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department. They have since been released.
