SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Giants have a new general manager, the team announced Friday.
Zack Minasian will be the club’s 11th manager in its history of being in the Bay Area, confirmed Buster Posey, the Giants’ president of baseball operations. Minasian and Posey are expected to hold a 2 p.m. Zoom call Friday to formally make the announcement and field questions.
If the name looks familiar, Minasian recently served as vice president of professional scouting for the Giants.
“We are excited for Zack to take on this new role,” said Posey in a press release. “Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience to the organization in his six years here. He’s also a thorough talent evaluator, but beyond that, he’s a terrific person our community will be proud of. We believe that in this new role he will immediately make us better as a team and organization and I look forward to working alongside him.”
Minasian, 41, was promoted to vice president of professional scouting of the Giants in 2022 after leaving the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019. Minasian has baseball in his veins; his father, also named Zack Minasian, was the Texas Rangers’ clubhouse manager from 1988 to 2009.
“I’m extremely thankful to Buster and to the Giants organization for this incredible opportunity to help lead our baseball operations department in this new role,” said Minasian. “I look forward to collaborating alongside Buster, Bob Melvin and the coaching staff, and our entire baseball operations department to begin work on bringing a World Series championship back to San Francisco.”
