(KRON) — The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) arrested seven people accused of promoting sideshows on social media.
SJPD said the suspects refer to themselves as “The Hockey Team.” Investigators believe the group may be responsible for up to 20 sideshows.
Police said the arrests were possible because of a new law that makes it Illegal to promote sideshows.
“Our message today is clear,” said Chief Paul Joseph of SJPD. “In San Jose, watching a sideshow is illegal. Participating in one is illegal. Promoting one is illegal. If you do it, we will find you, take your vehicle, and take you to jail. No matter how long it takes or how elaborate the lengths you go to conceal yourselves online, we will be relentless and patient in our pursuit of you.”
Police said they are still searching for two suspects.
