(KRON) — An active-duty Marine recruiter was arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting a minor on Monday, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said. The alleged crime happened at the recruiting center.
DPS learned of the assault on Tuesday. The suspect was identified as Jorge Lara-Pedroza.
According to a Sunnyvale DPS investigation, the suspect and 17-year-old female victim first met at the victim’s school a week before the assault. On Monday, she came to the Marine Corps recruiting center at 1322 South Mary Ave. in Sunnyvale to learn more about the Marines.
While the victim met with Lara-Pedroza, he sexually assaulted her, police said.
On Tuesday, Lara-Pedroza was arrested for oral copulation, penetration with a foreign object and arranging to meet a minor with the intent to engage in sexual conduct. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
