(KRON) — For the third consecutive year, the Golden State Warriors are the NBA’s most valuable franchise, according to Forbes. The list, which was released last week, valued the Dubs at $8.8 billion — more than a billion-dollar increase from 2023 ($7.7 billion).
The Warriors’ value is listed at more than $1 billion than the next team, New York Knicks, according to Forbes. The 2024 list valued the Knicks at $7.5 billion.
Despite failing to make it out of the Play-In Tournament last season, the Warriors’ value increased by 14% the previous year, Forbes said. Their operating income is listed to be at $142 million.

Boston Celtics ($6 billion)
Los Angeles Clippers ($5.5 billion)
Chicago Bulls ($5 billion)
Houston Rockets ($4.9 billion)
Brooklyn Nets ($4.8 billion)
Dallas Mavericks ($4.7 billion)

Joe Lacob and Peter Gruber, leaders of an ownership group, bought the Warriors in 2010 for a then-record $450 million. According to Forbes, the team is now worth nearly 20 times what Lacob and Gruber purchased the franchise for 14 years earlier.
Forbes said the rising values for all NBA teams — not just the Warriors — are driven by the league’s biggest financial driver: TV deals. The NBA’s reported $76 billion media rights deal over 11 years with ABC/ESPN, NBC/Peacock and Amazon Prime Video, according to Forbes, has boosted each franchise’s value.
For the 2023-24 season, the NBA produced about $13 billion in league-wide revenue. According to the publication, record attendance and record sponsorship deals are the biggest factors.
Methodology
The teams were valued based on “revenue and operating income” from the 2023-24 season, in addition to “net of revenue sharing and arena debt service.” According to Forbes, the revenue and operating income entails “earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.”
Forbes compiled its data by interviewing the teams themselves, sports bankers and media consultants. It also reviewed public documents, which include arena lease agreements, to gather the information.
More details about the methodology can be viewed on the list on Forbes’ website.
