(KRON) — Early in-person voting began Saturday in 29 counties across California, including Santa Clara County, where voters can now cast ballots at 26 different locations.
KRON4 visited the voting processing center in San Jose, where around a hundred workers are opening and sorting ballots. Each ballot is double- or even triple-checked to ensure the signature matches the voter’s and to identify any errors or blemishes. The voter tabulation machines can process approximately 100,000 ballots a day, while Santa Clara County has just over one million registered voters.
One elections worker, Rey Lambatin, who has participated in more than four elections, emphasized the importance of voting. “I think it’s important for people to vote because it’s important for our voices to be heard, that we do our part to elect officials that are going to put in the government to help solve our problems and make decisions for us that affect our daily lives,” Lambatin said.
Currently, about 17 percent of all registered voters in Santa Clara County have submitted their ballots.
Starting November 1, more than 100 voting locations will open not only in Santa Clara County but throughout the entire Bay Area.
