A 33-year-old inmate housed in a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles has been captured after he walked off the facility earlier this week, officials announced Wednesday.
Officials said Donya Gantt had been serving a two year and eight-month sentence for auto theft and robbery and had been incarcerated in L.A. County.
He had, however, only been housed in CDCR’s Male Community Reentry Program facility in L.A. since Oct. 7, officials said.
CDCR investigators were able to locate the 33-year-old in the great Los Angeles metropolitan area, though they did not specify exactly where he was found.
“Since 1977, 99 percent of the incarcerated people who have escaped or walked away from an adult institution, camp, in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended,” a CDCR news release stated.
Gantt’s case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible escape charges, officials added.
