Orange County Top 10 rankings
(Records entering Oct. 16)
1. Newport Harbor (20-0): The Sailors will aim for their third tournament title this fall at the North-South Challenge this weekend in Atherton. Newport Harbor is seeking to capture the event for the first time.
2. JSerra (16-2): The Lions are the two-time defending champion at the North-South Challenge.
3. Corona del Mar (19-4): The Sea Kings enter the week riding a seven-match winning streak. They’re in the Memorial Cup this weekend in San Jose.
4. Mater Dei (13-6): The Monarchs bounced back from a loss against JSerra last week by edging Miramonte 13-12.
5. Foothill (16-6): The Knights will join Corona del Mar and San Clemente at the Memorial Cup.
6. San Clemente (17-5): The Tritons fell to San Juan Hills 14-12 last week but own a split with the Stallions and the lead in the South Coast League.
7. Santa Margarita (12-6): The Eagles open the North-South Challenge against host Sacred Heart Prep on Friday.
8. Laguna Beach (13-10): The Breakers defeated Portola 11-9 on Tuesday to move to 5-0 in the Pacific Coast League.
9. San Juan Hills (14-6): The Stallions’ title chances in the South Coast League suffered with a blow with a loss to Beckman. They’re in the Steve Pal Memorial with Crean Lutheran this weekend.
10. Los Alamitos (13-9): The Griffins edged Huntington Beach 15-14 in overtime last week to knock the Oilers from the Top 10.
