(KRON) — The Marin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) made a sweeping discovery in the case of an interior designer and household organizer accused of stealing more than $80,000 in jewelry and gift cards from her Mill Valley employer over the course of five months. There may be additional victims, authorities warn.
The victim, a Strawberry-area resident, told Marin County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies on Oct. 10 she confronted the woman she hired, Cesalee Venema, after discovering the thefts. Venema allegedly admitted to “spending $5,000 on a gift card and taking another gift card with a value of $200″ but denied taking any of the jewelry, said investigators.
When detectives conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s house and her vehicle in Novato on Oct. 16, they said they recovered the missing jewelry, additional stolen gift cards stolen from the victim and items purchased with those cards.
MCSO said Venama admitted to taking the items during an interview and claimed to have worked as an interior designer for other Marin County residents.
Venema was booked into the Marin County Jail for possession of stolen property, burglary, embezzlement over $400, and grand theft. Venema was booked on a $50,000 and “quickly posted bail,” said the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
