Vegetation fire stopped in OC’s Williams Canyon, arson suspected and suspect is arrested

A person suspected of intentionally starting a vegetation fire in Williams Canyon on Monday, Oct. 7 was arrested, marking at least the second suspected arson fire this week in Orange County.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, firefighters responded to the vegetation fire in the Williams Canyon area, adjacent to Silverado. The fire was less than an acre when firefighters arrived and was eventually contained to a quarter acre, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Thanh Nguyen said.

No structures were damaged in Monday’s fire. The motive behind the fire remains under investigation.

An arrest was later made, though details on the suspect were not released.

The day prior, authorities arrested a different individual suspected of starting a brush fire near Saddleback Church in Lake Forest.
