The Mater Dei vs. Servite football game Friday night will be played at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
Why Mt. SAC?
It is Servite’s home game, and it decided that Mt. SAC’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium was its best option.
Servite used Cerritos College as its home field in recent seasons, but the stadium there is undergoing renovations.
Orange Coast College has served as Servite’s home field for the team’s first three home games this season, but Orange Lutheran is using the OCC stadium Friday.
“Playing on Fridays is always our first priority,” said Servite athletic director Matt Marrujo. “But Orange Coast College is booked this Friday (for Orange Lutheran vs. JSerra). And we weren’t going to play it at Santa Ana Bowl.”
Santa Ana Bowl, or Santa Ana Stadium as it is officially known, has been Mater Dei football’s home field for decades.
“So we’re at Mt. SAC,” Marrujo said. “I know it’s going to be a drive, but it’s a beautiful stadium.”
Hilmer Lodge Stadium reopened in 2022 after a long renovation. The stadium, named for the founder of the long-running Mt. SAC Relays track and field meet and the community college’s first track and field coach, seats around 6,500 on the home side and approximately 4,500 on the visitor’s side. It has a large, modern scoreboard.
The stadium has individual seats on the lower half of the stands on both sides of the field, with more such seating in much of the home half of the stadium. The other seating is metal benches with metal seat backs.
According to the Mt. San Antonio College website, parking can be accessed via Bonita Drive off of Temple Avenue at Student Lot F and at Student Lot R located on the south side of Temple Ave off of Bonita Drive.
Parking permits for $3 are available at kiosks at both lots.
Mater Dei, which is No. 1 in the Orange County Top 25, is 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Trinity League. No. 4 Servite is 6-0 overall and 1-0 in league.
