NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar running back Wyatt Lucas buys a steak dinner for each of his offensive linemen for every 100 yards he gains rushing during the football season.
Lucas is going to be running up an expensive tab this week.
The senior ran for a school-record 352 yards with four touchdowns in Corona del Mar’s 51-38 win over Trabuco Hills Friday at Newport Harbor High.
The previous Corona del Mar record was 304 yards set by Erik Fisher in 2011. Lucas’ previous career-high for rushing yards in a game was 80 in a win over Trabuco Hills last season.
“I think I owe them three steak dinners. That will hurt the pockets a bit but it’s worth it,” Lucas said. “My dad went here and had a couple records so it’s cool to beat him. I’m competitive, so to say I have more yards than my dad is crazy.”
Prior to the season, Lucas was awarded the Jack Elliot Character Award, which the team gives to the player who demonstrates the most integrity and leadership.
“He sees it really well and if we are blocking it cleanly, he’s going to make some big plays,” Corona del Mar coach Kevin Hettig said. “Up front, we were really good tonight. They communicated well and navigated the run game well.”

Corona del Mar’s offensive line featured Aziz Altuwaijri, Damian Zeno-Herrera, Landon Rucker, Anthony Hastings and Judah Snow.
The Sea Kings (3-2) had 524 yards of total offense, 423 of them came in the first half.
Both teams were scoring at a high rate early in the game. Trabuco Hills (4-1) scored on a 66-yard touchdown run by Landon Pompey to take a 7-0 lead just 22 seconds into the game. Pompey ran for 102 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns.
Corona del Mar tied the game with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Max Nashed to Dorsett Stecker.
Nashed and Stecker connected again for a 25-yard touchdown to give the Sea Kings a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Lucas ran for a 32-yard touchdown and an 81-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give the Sea Kings a 28-10 lead.
Pompey had a 1-yard touchdown run for Trabuco Hills and Nashed threw a third touchdown pass to Stecker and gave Corona del Mar a 35-17 lead at halftime.
Stecker caught 10 passes for 70 yards with three touchdowns for the Sea Kings. Nashed completed 18 of 24 passes for 145 yards with three touchdowns.
Landon Zack forced a fumble with a sack for Trabuco Hills which set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Gavin Mulhall.
Lucas had two more touchdown runs in the third quarter to make the score 49-24.
Corona del Mar linebacker Breck Clemmer had his first of four sacks in the endzone for a safety.
“Pretty much every time you looked up, Clemmer was making a play somewhere,” Hettig said.
Trabuco Hills quarterback Tristan Zale threw touchdown passes to Matt Misiego and Alex Kiernan in the second half. Zale threw for 295 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Kiernan led all receivers with 113 yards on eight receptions.
Ryan Rakunas had an interception for Corona del Mar’s defense and Emerson Tingley recovered a fumble.
Cash Nicholls had a sack for Trabuco Hills along with Zack. Raddux Moscoso recovered a fumble for the Mustangs and Ryan Weiskittel made a 21-yard field goal.
Corona del Mar snapped a two-game losing streak and begins a tough Bravo League slate next Friday at San Juan Hills.
“Tonight was a big night for us,” Hettig said. “The team responded during the bye week and got better. We are ready for the Bravo League and are excited to get into it.”
Friday was the first loss of the season for Trabuco Hills. The Mustangs play on the road against El Modena Thursday.
