Anaheim briefs: Do you go all out for Halloween; enter the home decorating contest

Anaheim Beautiful is hosting the 2024 Fall/Halloween Home Decorating Contest.

Pumpkins, scarecrows, witches and more will be festooning Anaheim homes and judges will be deciding who is capturing the spirit of the holiday. Entries will be judged on their own merit – concept, creativity and originality.

Entries must be submitted by midnight Oct. 13. To enter a property, email the following information to contact@anaheimbeautiful.org: Resident’s name, full Anaheim address including zip code, phone number, email address and photos or video.

Entries must be visible while walking through or driving through the neighborhood. No haunted houses or walk-throughs.

Policing of tomorrow to be presented to residents

There will be a virtual ride along with Anaheim Police Department at an important event at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 26   at Anaheim Central Library

Members of the APD will present the new state-of-the-art technology the department will utilitizing that revolutionizes policing and brings an additional level of safety to Anaheim, officials said.

The presentation will show cameras, license plate readers, drones and more. It is free to attend and all are welcome. The library is at 500 W. Broadway.

Muzeo offers events with ‘Eternal Mourning’ exhibit

The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is hosting Charles Spratley to speak about mourning customs and traditions in Victorian America from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight, Sept. 26, in the Main Gallery.

And on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon join the Muzeo for “Mourning Tea,” with tea, scones, storytelling and music in Victorian tradition.

Also, Yoga in the Gallery is back at the Muzeo at 10 a.m. on Saturdays inside the “Eternal Mourning: Death and Remembrance of Victorian America” exhibit.  Reserve your tickets.

Use Anaheim’s libraries without late fees

The Anaheim Public Library is now fine-free and everyone can enjoy their library card without ever having to worry about paying overdue fees. September is also Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Your outstanding balance can be cleared – the only exception is charges related to STEAM science kits, ukuleles and/or Chromebooks.

Did you know that now available for reservation are IFIXIT kit tools that you can check out? These are professional grade repair tools for any repair, and there is much more at all the branches.

Community health fair this weekend

The Anaheim Health Fair will be held Sept. 28 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The event is open to the community and will feature flu vaccines, vision screenings, pap smears, hearing tests and other medical and dental services.

The health fair is free and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Solve a crime with police and help raise money

The Anaheim Police Department is pulling back the curtain on a case.

Anaheim Confidential is scheduled for Oct. 4, and the presentation will follow a crime in Anaheim, how it was pursued, investigated and solved.

The event is a fundraiser for the department’s Cops-4-Kids nonprofit youth programs and will be held in the River Arena, 201 E. Broadway, from 4 to 9 p.m. Anaheim Confidential is in its seventh year

Check out a beer fest downtown

Don’t miss the Firkenstein, Craft Beer Festival on Oct. 5  on the Center Street Promenade.

The Assistance League of Orange is presenting its Boutique Noel 2024 for some early holiday preparations.

Boutique Noel will bring unique hand-crafted items, fall and winter décor, jewelry, gifts, clothing, food and more to one spot for shopping.

The boutique is being held Oct. 9-12 at 124 S. Orange St., Orange. Hours are 2:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 9, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12

Parking and admission are free each day.

Welcome Wagon Club of North Orange County busy

There is a social club with about 100 members from throughout the Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda areas.

Members of the Welcome Wagon Club of North Orange County are new residents or newly retired widowed or empty nested and are looking for a way to make new friends.

They meet on the third Thursday of the month from September to May. Meetings are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coyote Hills Country Club in Fullerton.  There is a membership fee of $35, plus cost of luncheon.
