Two people were injured and one “person of interest” was detained following an explosion at a Santa Barbara county courthouse Wednesday morning.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, an explosion was reported at the courthouse in Santa Maria around 8:50 a.m.
Santa Maria is located about an hour north of Santa Barbara off of Highway 101.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said in a post to social media that the person of interest was detained immediately and two victims suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Zick said the scene had not yet been deemed safe and urged citizens to avoid the area while law enforcement officers were on scene.
Additional information was expected to be released later on the day.
