The driver of a sewage vaccum tanker truck suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle overturned during a collision with a small SUV in Orange County Monday morning, authorities said.
The crash occurred at the intersection of West Sunflower Avenue & Fairview Road, near the 405 Freeway, the Costa Mesa Police Department posted on X, formerly Twitter.
A photo released by police showed the truck on its side with debris spread across the intersection. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators said the tanker truck was going through the intersection around 8:40 a.m. when it was broadsided by the SUV.

“At this time, the investigation does appear to show the sewage vacuum truck driver ran the red light,” Police Department Sgt. Jared Barnes said.
The driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition.
Orange County Health was at the scene along with a hazmat team after sewage from the tanker spilled onto the roadway.
The intersection was expected to be closed for several hours during the investigation and cleanup, police stated in the post.
