A 15-year-old girl from Riverside has been arrested after police say she made threats over social media targeting other students at her school.
The incident occurred Sept. 18 at Ramona High School, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.
According to authorities, the school resource officer began an investigation after receiving a report of the threats.
It was later determined that one girl involved in a group Instagram chat with several other female students made statements suggesting violence against her classmates and posted a photo of firearms that “was recirculated from a social media post that originally threatened school violence in another state,” police said.
After a search of the student’s home, authorities determined that she did not have access to firearms.

The teen was arrested and booked at a Riverside County juvenile detention facility for criminal threats.
The arrest comes just days after a 13-year-old girl at Chemawa Middle School, approximately two miles away from Ramona High School, was arrested for social media posts threatening violence at the school and a list of targeted students.
In that case, many concerned parents pulled their children out of school over safety concerns.
“Students who make threats of school violence on social media or by other means will face strict criminal consequences and severe disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion, “Riverside PD Chief Larry Gonzalez said after that arrest. “We will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the safety and security of our schools.”
