(BCN) — A man from Contra Costa County was sentenced by a federal judge to a year and a day in prison for tax evasion, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Rodeo resident Salman Salman, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion on May 8, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Prosecutors said Salman admitted to falsely reporting the income he and his wife received from three businesses he owned and operated during the scheme. The businesses were The Plug Tattoo & Piercing, Inc., S&S Real Estate Investment Group, and Synergy Investment Group Ohio Inc.
In his plea agreement, Salman acknowledged that he failed to report more than $3.4 million paid to him by his companies for tax years 2016 to 2019. He claimed false and overstated expenses, all of which furthered his scheme to reduce his tax obligations, prosecutors said.
Salman also confessed to underreporting capital gains and dividends subject to income tax by more than $2.4 million.
Prosecutors said he must serve 36 months of supervised release after his prison term. He is also ordered to pay $438,247 in restitution and a fine of $7,500.
Salman was ordered to surrender and start serving his sentence on Oct. 30.
