Mason Nguyen of Beckman was the fastest of the boys runners in the Laguna Hills Invitational cross country meet on Saturday at Laguna Hills High.
Nguyen won the Division 1 Junior Boys race in 15 minutes, 2.4 seconds to beat his Beckman teammate Christian Weber who finished in 15:07.3
Beckman’s Ryan Barris was victorious in the Division 1 Sophomore Boys race at 15:05.5.
Keaton Robar of Newport Harbor won the Division 2 Senior girls competition at 17:43.5, the fastest time among all girls runners at the meet. Her Newport Harbor teammate was a close second in that race at 17:44.3.
WOODBRIDGE CLASSIC
The Woodbridge Classic at Great Park in Irvine on Friday and Saturday has, as usual, attracted the top cross country athletes and teams in the state.
Among the returning state champions that are entered are Dana Hills senior Evan Noonan, the fastest boys runner in the CIF State Championships last fall; last year’s CIF State Division 1 girls champion Rylee Blade, a senior at Santiago of Corona; and Ventura senior Sadie Englehardt who was last year’s CIF State Division 2 girls champion and also was the CIF State Track and Field 1,600 champion.
JSerra’s championship girls team is entered as is the school’s boys team that could have a great 2024. Holly Barker, last year;s county cross country runner of the year, leads the Trabuco Hills team.
This will the 43rd running of the Woodbridge Classic.
