Orange County Top 10 rankings
(Records entering Sept. 10)
1. Newport Harbor (4-0): Kai Kaneko scored six goals and fellow attacker Mason Netzer had 11 assists in a 15-9 win at Foothill last week. The Sailors are the top seed this week for the South Coast Tournament.
2. JSerra (2-0): Tyler Anderson scored four goals and his brother Sean, a freshman, added three in an 11-7 win against Oaks Christian.
3. Corona del Mar (7-0): The Sea Kings defeated Mater Dei 9-7 to claim the Santa Barbara Invitational on Saturday and extend their strong start.
4. Santa Margarita (2-0): The Eagles open the South Coast Tournament at Foothill in an intriguing match on Thursday. Foothill has a few more matches under its belt.
5. Mater Dei (5-3): The Monarchs lost for the second time to Corona del Mar in the finals of the Santa Barbara tournament.
6. Foothill (4-2): The Knights went 3-0 to claim the Punahou Invitational in Hawaii. John Bergstedt, a strong shooter, netted four goals against Newport Harbor.
7. San Clemente (4-0): The Tritons open the South Coast Tournament against Mira Costa (4-2) on Thursday at Corona del Mar.
8. Los Alamitos (5-1): The Griffins lost in overtime against Long Beach Wilson 12-10 in their first match since the resignation of coach Dave Carlson.
9. San Juan Hills (3-1): The Stallions’ signature win is a 21-14 triumph against Crean Lutheran.
10. Huntington Beach (2-5): The Oilers finished 14th at the Santa Barbara tournament.
