Wanderlust Creamery, which specializes in such standout flavors as sticky mango rice, Japanese Neapolitan (matcha, sakura and Hokkaido milk) and an eye-popping vegan ube malted crunch, will open its second Orange County location on Friday, Sept. 13 in Costa Mesa.
With more than two dozen flavors inspired by their trips around the world, husband-wife team Jon-Patrick Lopez and Adrienne Borlongan opened their first brick-and-mortar Wanderlust in Tarzana in 2015. Since then, the couple have opened seven locations with the latest spot on Bristol Street being their eighth.
Borlongan, a food scientist by trade, has developed a roster of unique flavors that go above and beyond the salted caramels and rocky roads saturating most ice cream shops.

Wanderlust Creamery has 15 ice cream staples (like pistachio puro, Thai tea and boba, black sesame cookies and cream, Vietnamese rocky road and the aforementioned ube malted crunch, to name a few) as well and a handful of rotating seasonal flavors.
Seasonal flavors change by the month. September offerings include a toasted corn white chocolate ice cream, gansito oaxaqueño (a leche quemada ice cream studded with vanilla sponge cake and swirled with cactus prickly pear jam), Hong Kong french toast (a buttered toast ice cream with ribbons of peanut butter and condensed milk) and a Kyoho grape sorbet (a concord-like treat with a dark violet hue that Wanderlust described as having a “grapier than grape” flavor).
