SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect who allegedly left racist items outside a dog walker’s home. SFPD officers responded to a residence near the Painted Ladies on the 900 block of Grove Street on April 26 at around 7:10 a.m.
The victim, a long-time SF resident and dog walker, Terry Williams, told police he found threatening and racist items outside his residence. The items included a Black doll with a noose around its neck, a toy grenade and written racist slurs.
SFPD investigated the incident as a hate crime. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as 67-year-old April Martin Chartrand of San Francisco. Investigators have obtained a Ramey Warrant for her arrest.
In a twist to the story, Chartrand’s family reported her missing on Aug. 23. SFPD is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Chartrand. Anyone who locates her is asked to call 911.
The investigation into Chartrand’s whereabouts remains open and active, police said.
About a month after the initial incident, a fire broke out at Williams’ residence. No one was injured and the home has since been repopulated. The fire remains under investigation.
