A homicide investigation is underway in Santa Monica after an unhoused man was found dead in an alley.
“We are investigating a tragic incident involving a male victim, believed to be homeless, who was found deceased from an apparent stab wound in the alley near the 1100 block of 6th Street,” the Santa Monica Police Department stated on X, formerly Twitter, Friday morning.
It was unclear who found the unidentified victim’s body or when the stabbing may have occurred.
“At this time, no suspect is in custody, and we are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying and locating the individual(s) responsible,” the Police Department stated.
Police told residents they were working “diligently” to identify the suspect and would keep a strong police presence in the area.
“We recognize that our community has recently been impacted by several violent crimes and understand the heightened concern these incidents cause,” police said.
On Thursday, a homeless man identified as Mario Alejandri was charged with three felony counts of assault for alleged attacks on two people in Santa Monica.
“We want to reassure the community that the safety and well-being of our residents remain our highest priorities,” police said.
