SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Crews with the San Francisco Fire Department responded to reports of glass seen on a car and in the roadway near Salesforce Tower on Friday morning, KRON4.com has confirmed. SFFD officials received a call at about 8:30 a.m. from a driver who saw the glass in the street in the area of Mission and Fremont streets.
According to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, there was police activity in the area of Mission Street between Fremont and Beale streets.
Emergency crews responded and people were advised to avoid the area. As of about 10 a.m., the incident had been declared resolved, according to officials. Fire officials treated the incident as a hazmat situation and a clean-up effort was undertaken.
Fire officials declined to say whether the glass had fallen from Salesforce Tower or another high-rise in the area. KRON4.com reached out to the San Francisco Police Department.
SFPD confirmed that officers had responded to the area on a report of shattered glass in the roadway. While SFPD would not specify the exact source of the glass, they did confirm it was from a nearby building. Officials said the falling glass appeared to be related to construction.
There were no reports of injuries or property damage.
During the winter storms of 2023, glass fell from several high-rise building in SF, prompting officials to inspect newer buildings.
