1 dead, 1 critical in crash of motorcycle and SUV in Orange

A motorcyclist died after a collision with an SUV during a busy afternoon on a major thoroughfare in Orange on Friday, Sept. 6, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. on the 2700 block of E. Chapman Avenue at the Yorba intersection. A Hyundai Tucson heading west on Chapman Ave turned south into a parking lot when a motorcyclist and passenger heading east crashed into the vehicle, Orange police said.

One of the two people on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person was transported to a hospital and was in critical condition, police reported. No other details about the pair were provided.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol may have played a part in the crash, police said.

Eastbound traffic lanes on Chapman Avenue were to remain closed from Yorba to Malena Street for several hours while investigators were at the scene.
